Running for Elected Office?


Some ideas from the masses:

We are tired of your endless political ads already. They lie. They condescend. They annoy. Please spend your money elsewhere.
We are tired of the tons of junk political mail. Be an advocate for the environment. Stop sending us endless lying mail. No number of pictures of you or statistics make us vote for you. So far this election, I have received 29 seperate pieces of mail from politicians. Stop sending it. I don't read them. I don't trust them. When I needed help, none of you were around. Now, I won't be around to hear your self aggrandizement. Here are some real ideas.

JUSTICE SYSTEM
Many of you talk about being tough on crime. Wonderful. However, while you talk a good game, our prisons are already overcrowded with people. Your tough on crime grandstanding puts people who have no business being behind bars into jail. Let's change things a bit, shall we?
- Eliminate jail terms for first time drug offenders. Specifically, no more jail time for people convicted of possession of marajuana for personal use. The most dangerous thing these people do is eat too much. Give them a fine, since we all know the government likes getting money more than spending it. No one will see this as being soft on criminals.
- Make drunk driving a House Arrest crime. Sure, if someone is hit or killed, jail is needed. But, stop taking up cells with DUI offenders. Give them a wonderful ankle bracelet to track them, make them work, and make them pay for the crime. No more jail for this crime - it is a waste.
- Create a National Violent Criminal Maximum Security Prison (NVCMSP) in Alaska. Have all states in the US provide the funding for the creation of the prison. Make it large enough to meet the expanding number of violent criminals in the US. Transfer ALL violent criminals from the other prisons in the US to the NVCMSP. Treat the guard duty staff like a military unit, providing excellent pay, housing, benefits, etc. Make the area around the prison just like a military base. Provide a Commissary, PX, schools for families, etc. This facility should be located in the middle of nowhere in Alaska. The prison should be surrounded by several layers of fences, dog walks, and a minefield. Yes, I'm serious. This will really deter escapes. However, give the offenders the opportunity for relgious instruction and counseling from a full time highly trained staff. Have trade education programs like in other prisons. Use the prison farm system to provide some of the food for the installation. This entire system will remove violent prisoners from our other prisons. It will reduce offenses against nonviolent prisoners. Use the prisons in the other states to house white collar offenders and other nonviolent prisoners. Also, some can be turned into rehab facilities. Three prisons in the US can be developed for sex offenders, complete with full time counseling and treatment. That way, the therapists and guards can be true specialists. This is a better way to run our current system of corrections.

LEGISLATION
- Congress should take one entire term to eliminate useless laws or revamp laws that make no sense. Our current government is antiquated and full of red tape. Make Congress spend an entire term NOT making new laws, but repealing old ones.

OUT OF CONTROL JUDICIARY
- Punish frivolous lawsuits. Punish judges who accept them.

EDUCATION
- Eliminate Zero Tolerence Policies in schools. They teach nothing other than that adults need guidelines and policies because they cannot make decisions on their own. A picture of a squirtgun, or the gun from a G.I. Joe toy (1/4" long) brought to school by a proud 8 year old should not be a suspendable offense. Get real. Where do you people come from?

SOCIAL PROGRAMS
- Bring back programs like Roosevelt's Civilian Conservation Corps for the unemployed. Establish similar alphabet agency programs to serve our citizens. Encourage those burdened by criminal records to apply, and provide decent pay and benefits. Many would leave their lives of crime to take advantage of real work.
- Make the drinking age 18. Ensure that the drinker is a high school graduate by placing an image on their license when they graduate. Make graduation from high school a condition of legal drinking, with the other option waiting till they are 21. This will eliminate several current stupidities. If you are 18, you can smoke, vote, die in the military for our country, live independently, and do anything else an adult can do. But not drink? Dumb. College towns have communities based almost solely on property taxes and drinking fines. Soldiers who served 3 tours in Iraq are being fined for having a beer when they come home. Make jail terms for people who provide alcohol to those under 18 or who do not meet the graduation requirement. However, make it a misdemeanor so their entire lives are not destroyed. This program will also increase the graduation rate.

DEFENSE AND IMMIGRATION
- Make a military unit of illegal immigrants who want to stay. Send men to a all immigrant unit to fight in Iraq. They will receive the same pay, training, and equipment as American soliders. They will also recieve ESL and citizenship classes. Their families will recieve the same base rights and benefits as American spouses. Children will recieve schooling. These individuals must serve in the immigrant unit for 3 years - 1 year training, 2 in Iraq. When this period is over, they will be granted full citizenship, with the opportunity to stay in the military or get out. By offering many immigrants this opportunity, it will lessen the number of disenfranchised individuals in our nation, lower the number of illegals, and take a burden off our American troops.


I have lots of good ideas. Some aren't mine. Take advantage of them.
